1861 So-Called Dollar HK-875a, The Loyal National League
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Leagues of this name formed in several Northern cities, setting out to plant loyalty to the federal government and root out disloyalty, and the Loyal National League went so far as to demand that Southern sympathizers be dismissed from government jobs. HK-875a is the white metal version of its undated medal, which Hibler and Kappen place around 1861. Crossed flags and the words "A Common Union" head the reverse, followed by a vow to keep the country strong, glorious and whole. The obverse, under the league's name, promises "Unconditional / Loyalty to the / Government" and national unity over a spread eagle. No designer, die sinker or maker is recorded. It is 35 mm, like the silver HK-874 and copper HK-875.
