Description
The 1860 (D) Liberty Gold Dollar was struck at the Dahlonega Mint as a Gold Dollar in the Large Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1856-1889 series. The Dahlonega Mint struck 1,566 gold dollars dated 1860. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess with a larger, more detailed head design and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR. Charlotte struck no gold dollars in 1860; its last were dated 1859. The Dahlonega Mint in Georgia struck gold coins from 1838 until its closure at the start of the Civil War in 1861. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.672 grams, 15 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7556.
