Description

Part of the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series, the 1859 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle - New Reverse is a Gold Quarter Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint. The 1859 Philadelphia quarter eagle had a mintage of 39,364 in all, New Reverse and Old Reverse together; the split between them is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Quarter eagles were struck at Philadelphia, Dahlonega and San Francisco. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7788.
