Description

Judd-212 is an 1858 Indian Head cent pattern pairing Obverse 8 (the Indian Head design dated 1858, rounded or "Broad Bust" variety) with Reverse C (an oak wreath with a broad ornamental shield at the apex, arrows below, and ONE CENT at the center). The obverse uses the Rounded Bust type that the Mint would employ for regular-issue Indian Head cents from 1860 through part of 1864, with an olive sprig and three arrows bound at the base of the wreath on the reverse. This is one of the most frequently encountered 1858 Indian Head patterns, appearing regularly at major auctions. The finest certified example, graded Proof-67 by NGC with CAC verification, was described as among the most appealing specimens handled, with fully struck devices, silky smooth surfaces, and an exceptionally vibrant mint finish.
