Description

Judd-210 is an 1858 Indian Head cent pattern pairing Obverse 8 (the Indian Head design dated 1858) with Reverse C (an oak wreath with a broad ornamental shield at the apex, arrows below, and ONE CENT at the center). The ornamental shield at the top of the wreath, attributed to Paquet, gives this reverse a more formal appearance than the plain oak wreath of J-209. This die combination was included in the 12-piece pattern sets sold by the Mint, alongside its counterparts with the Flying Eagle and Small Eagle obverses. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge, J-210 demonstrates the complete range of die pairings that allowed Mint Director Snowden to evaluate the Indian Head obverse against every available reverse design before making his final selection.

Rarity Notes
