Description

Judd-206 is an 1858 cent pattern pairing Obverse 6 (the Small or "Skinny" Flying Eagle by Paquet) with Reverse A (the regular agricultural wreath as used on circulation Flying Eagle cents). Slight hub doubling is known on the reverse, with the close E in ONE rehubbed with an open E. The agricultural wreath, composed of corn, wheat, cotton, and tobacco representing the major exports of both Northern and Southern states, was the standard reverse for the 1857-1858 Flying Eagle cent. Pairing it with the experimental Small Eagle obverse provided a direct comparison with the regular Flying Eagle design. Struck in copper-nickel with a plain edge, this pattern features the "Low Leaves" variety of the agricultural wreath. Bright, reflective fields with reddish-tinted tan-gold surfaces are characteristic of well-preserved examples.
