Description

This bronze medal, cataloged as J-AM-16, commemorates the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations held in New York in 1853, America's first world's fair. The "AE" designation confirms the standard bronze composition, making this the more widely distributed companion to the silver version (PCGS #678273). The exhibition was housed in a magnificent Crystal Palace at Reservoir Square, now Bryant Park, and showcased industrial achievements from nations worldwide. The bronze version of the J-AM-16 medal was produced in larger quantities for general sale to exhibition visitors and the public, while the silver version was reserved for exhibitors, dignitaries, and premium collectors. The 1853 exhibition marked a turning point in American self-confidence โ€” the young nation was demonstrating that its manufacturing and technological capabilities could rival those of the established European industrial powers. The Crystal Palace burned in 1858, adding poignancy to all surviving artifacts from the exhibition.
