Description
A Gold Quarter Eagle from the Dahlonega Mint, the 1849 (D) Liberty Head Quarter Eagle belongs to the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The Dahlonega Mint struck 10,945 quarter eagles dated 1849. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. California Gold Rush bullion boosted production. Charlotte and Dahlonega continued modest output. Dahlonega's Georgia mint operated from 1838 to 1861, processing Appalachian gold into coins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7754.
