Description
The 1844 (C) Liberty Head Quarter Eagle is a Gold Quarter Eagle from the Charlotte Mint, belonging to the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The Charlotte Mint struck 11,622 quarter eagles dated 1844. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. The Charlotte Mint in North Carolina struck gold coins exclusively from 1838 until the Civil War forced its closure in 1861. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7735.
