Description
The 1837 Capped Bust Dime was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dime in the Capped Bust Dimes 1809-1837 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 359,500 dimes dated 1837. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mobcap and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The final year of the Capped Bust Dime before the Seated Liberty design replaced it in 1837. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 2.7 grams, 18.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4529.
