(1834) Token HT-15E, Whig Victory
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1834 brass Whig Victory token is the final cataloged composition variant in the Whig Victory subseries, which spans HT-14 through HT-15E across multiple sizes and metals. The brass composition gives this 27mm token its characteristic golden appearance, contrasting with the reddish-brown copper versions (HT-15, HT-15C) and the silvery white metal version (HT-15D). The breadth of the Whig Victory subseries — at least eight varieties across three sizes and five compositions — reflects the significance of the 1834 Senate censure as a political milestone and the commercial appetite for tokens celebrating the Whig opposition to Jackson. No other single political event of the Hard Times era generated as many token varieties, making the Whig Victory group one of the most important and collected subseries in American political numismatics. The brass version occupies a middle position in the rarity hierarchy of Whig Victory tokens: more common than silver or white metal but less abundant than the copper versions. Collectors assembling complete composition sets of the Whig Victory design face significant challenges, as the rarer metals may surface only infrequently at major auctions or numismatic conventions.
Rarity Notes
Scarce. Brass strikings are less common than copper but more available than white metal or silver.
