Description
The 1833 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - HT-A424 G.G. Clark On 1832 Lg Letters RI is part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Designed by Robert Scot (attributed). Struck in copper. Cataloged as PCGS #77600. The Matron Head (or Coronet) large cent represented the next evolution in cent design, produced during the "Era of Good Feelings" through the presidency of Andrew Jackson. Many die varieties exist, cataloged in the Newcomb reference system.
