Description
The 1833 Capped Bust Half Dime is a dime produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Capped Bust Half Dimes 1829-1837 series. With a mintage of 1.4 million, this is a less common issue. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Modest production year. Die varieties provide collecting depth. Estimated market value ranges from $83 to $1.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 1.35 grams, 15.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4280.
