Description
The 1832 Capped Bust Half Dime is a dime produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Capped Bust Half Dimes 1829-1837 series. With a mintage of 965,000, this is a scarce issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Continued regular production. Half dimes circulated widely in everyday commerce. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $83 to $1.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 1.35 grams, 15.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
