Description

Part of the Capped Head to Left Half Eagles 1813-1834 series, the 1830 Capped Head to Left Half Eagle - Small 5D is a Gold Half Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 126,351 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 33% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a cap with curls of hair beneath and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Reduced-size production continued with a small mintage. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $25K to $121K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% copper, weighing 8.75 grams, 23.8 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
