Description
Part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series, the 1824 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent is a cent from the Philadelphia Mint. With a mintage of 1.3 million, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. The 1824/2 overdate is collected. Multiple Newcomb varieties cataloged. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $100 to $31K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1636.
