About This Coin
The 1822 Capped Bust Dime is a United States dime from the Capped Bust Dimes 1809-1837 series. The Mint reported 100,000 dimes for 1822, but only one die pair is known for the date, and NGC believes much of the figure was struck with an 1821 date; no mintage was recorded for the proofs. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mobcap and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 2.7 grams, 18.8 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by John Reich.
