Description
The 1803 Draped Bust Half Cent is a half cent from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Draped Bust Half Cents 1800-1808 series. The 92,000 figure counts half cents dated 1803; the Mint delivered 97,900 in calendar 1803, about 5,900 of them dated 1802. The obverse features Liberty facing right with draped bust and ribbon-bound hair, designed after a Gilbert Stuart portrait and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. Multiple die varieties exist. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1060.
