The 1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar is a United States half dollar from the Flowing Hair Half Dollars 1794-1795 series — the first year of the series. In 1794, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a combined mintage of 23,464. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a small, naturalistic eagle perched on a palm branch within a wreath. First year of the U.S. half dollar. Only 23,464 struck. The 1794 is rare in all grades and highly sought as a first-year type coin. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 32.5 mm in diameter, with a lettered: fifty cents or half a dollar edge.
