Description

Brownish red fiber is the last and least ordinary material Hibler and Kappen list for the Continental Currency and Confederation medal, and HK-860d is that piece, DeLorey 88. Its 39 mm size matches the copper HK-857 at the head of the group. The design comes from Revolutionary paper money. On one face is the Continental dollar's sundial with "Fugio" and "Mind Your Business," patterned on fractional notes said to be Franklin's work; on the other, from the forty-dollar notes of 1778 and 1779, rays fall from an eye in the clouds onto an altar fire, with thirteen stars around and the ribbon "Confederation" beneath. The listing files it with the Continental-related pieces that Thomas K. DeLorey moved from Elder's name to Dickeson's, judging by planchets unlike those of any proven Elder medal.
