Description

HK-860b joins two pieces of Revolutionary paper money in one aluminum medal. Its Continental Currency face repeats the design of the 1776 Continental dollar, which was itself modeled on the fractional notes of February 17, 1776: the sundial, the word "Fugio" and the motto "Mind Your Business," which Franklin is said to have reworded from an older English saying. The Confederation face is taken from the forty-dollar bills the Continental Congress put out in 1778 and 1779, where an all-seeing eye beams down on an altar fire encircled by eight-pointed stars, with "Confederation" on a ribbon below. Hibler and Kappen give the pairing DeLorey number 88 and record it in seven other compositions, from copper (HK-857) to brownish red fiber (HK-860d). The aluminum piece measures 39 mm.
