1776 So-Called Dollar HK-861, Continental Currency Uniface
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
HK-861 is struck on one side only. Its single face is the Continental Currency obverse used for the Dickeson copy of the Continental dollar: a sundial in a circle with the sun's rays from the upper left and "Mind Your Business" beneath, "Fugio" beside the sun, the outer legend "Continental Currency" and the date 1776; the back is blank. Hibler and Kappen catalogue these uniface dollars as DeLorey 89 and list them between the Confederation dollars, whose reverse copies the Continental Congress notes of 1778-1779, and the Perseverando pieces. Like the rest of the group, they were once given to Thomas L. Elder and are now assigned to Professor Dickeson on Thomas K. DeLorey's evidence. This is the brass version, 39 mm; German-silver (HK-862), copper (HK-862a) and aluminum (HK-862b) uniface pieces are also listed.
