Description
An oversized copper proof pattern struck at the Tower of London on the same dies as the circulating Virginia halfpenny but on a larger planchet with a wide milled border. Never intended for commerce, these proof pieces were presentation strikes or trial pieces. Distinguished from the halfpennies by the absence of a period after GEORGIVS and the presence of six harp strings.

R.6. A dozen examples known in all grades. Proof-only issue struck on specially prepared planchets.
