Description

The 1746 1/2 Sou Marque is a French billon coin worth 12 deniers, half the value of the standard Sou Marque. It was struck at the Paris mint (mint mark A). The half sou marqué, a sol of 12 deniers, belongs to the same 1738 reform as the 24-denier piece and shows the same two crowned L's. CoinVarieties gives its standard as 1.09 grams of .250 fine silver, from dies by Joseph-Charles Roettiers. Jambu counts these pieces among the coins of the kingdom that were sent to the colonies as needed, not made for them.
