Description
The most obtainable of the three New England silver denominations, bearing "NE" (New England) on the obverse and "XII" (twelve pence / one shilling) on the reverse. Authorized by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1652 and struck in Boston by John Hull and Robert Sanderson from dies cut by Joseph Jenks. Approximately 40 examples survive across six die varieties. Sterling silver (.925), target weight 72 grains (4.67g).
