Description

Pittsburgh carries the number 765 in Fuld's Pennsylvania list, and merchant letter I there belongs to J.C. & W.H. Lippincott. Fuld PA-765I-2a is the firm's die pair 2 in copper, a metal the letter a means; NGC brackets it 1861-65. Per a dealer's listing of this same pairing, the merchant die calls the firm grocers at “No 19 Diamond,” with the town spelled Pittsburg, and the other side shows an eagle on a shield holding arrows.
