(No Date) Civil War Store Card F-700I-1f, RH
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
Civil War store card from the Fuld 700I-1f series, attributed to the unidentified issuer "RH." The Fuld 700 "RH" series represents one of the most extensive unidentified issuer groups in the Civil War store card catalog. The initials "RH" appear on tokens struck in numerous die combinations and metals, suggesting commercial-scale production during the 1862-1864 coin shortage. Struck in silver, a rare composition for Civil War tokens. Silver strikes were typically presentation pieces or special orders rather than circulating currency. Although undated, this token was manufactured during the 1862-1864 period when private tokens circulated as emergency currency. New York City produced over half of all Civil War tokens, with additional output from Waterbury, Connecticut (center of the brass industry) and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Rarity Notes
Silver strikings are considerably scarcer than base metal versions, typically produced in small quantities for collectors or as special presentation pieces. With 6 cataloged varieties, RH was a minor token issuer.
