Description

Civil War store card from the Fuld 700A-1e series, attributed to the unidentified issuer "RH." Part of the extensive Fuld 700 "RH" series, one of the largest groups of unattributed Civil War store cards. With over 100 cataloged varieties across multiple die combinations and metals, the volume of production indicates "RH" was a die sinker, distributor, or jobber who supplied tokens in bulk. Struck in white metal (a tin-based alloy), a scarce composition. Surviving white metal examples often show more wear than copper or brass counterparts due to the soft metal. Although undated, this token was manufactured during the 1862-1864 period when private tokens circulated as emergency currency. Collectors classify Civil War tokens by the Fuld numbering system, which catalogs each unique die combination. Rarity ratings range from R-1 (over 5,000 known) to R-10 (unique).

Rarity Notes

White metal (tin alloy) strikings are less common than copper or brass versions and tend to show more wear due to the softness of the alloy. With 24 cataloged varieties, RH was a moderately active token issuer.
