ND Mormon Five Dollar - Uniface Lead Reverse, K-6, Plain Edge Restrike
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The undated Mormon Five Dollar uniface lead reverse restrike with Kagin K-6 designation and plain edge preserves the Mormon half eagle reverse die at the K-6 die state in soft lead. Lead’s extreme malleability captures the finest details of the die surface — including features that harder metals might not reproduce — making this piece an invaluable reference for documenting the reverse die’s condition at this specific point. The K-6 die state represents a mid-to-late period in the reverse die’s restrike history. The clasped hands, "PURE GOLD" inscription, and "FIVE DOLLARS" denomination are preserved with the remarkable fidelity that only lead impressions can achieve, along with any die cracks, rust marks, or progressive wear diagnostic of the K-6 state. Lead restrikes are inherently more fragile than copper examples due to lead’s softness and susceptibility to surface compression, bending, and environmental corrosion. Surviving lead impressions in good condition are therefore particularly valued by researchers studying the Mormon die chronology.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare. Lead restrikes at the K-6 die state are very scarce, with only a few documented examples surviving.
