Description
This circa 1867 silver medal, cataloged as JAB-28, is the precious metal version of Bolen's Lincoln-Emancipation design. Silver Lincoln medals from the immediate post-assassination period carry particular emotional and historical weight, as they represent the most premium tribute a private die sinker could produce for the fallen president. The emancipation theme adds further historical significance, connecting Lincoln's sacrifice to the cause of ending slavery. Silver versions of JAB-28 were produced in very small quantities, making them among the most desirable Lincoln-subject medals in the Bolen series. The silver composition elevates this from a collectible medalet to a memorial tribute of genuine gravitas, reflecting the depth of national mourning and the growing mythology surrounding Lincoln's legacy in the years immediately following the Civil War.
