Description
This circa 1867 silver medal with thin planchet, cataloged as JAB-26, is the standard-weight silver version of Bolen's Thomas Jefferson portrait. The "Thin Plan" (thin planchet) designation distinguishes this from the thick planchet variant (PCGS #886871), indicating it was struck on a standard-thickness silver planchet. While less physically impressive than the thick planchet version, the thin planchet silver Jefferson medal is itself a scarce and desirable piece, as Bolen produced only small numbers of silver examples of any design. The thin planchet version is more commonly encountered than the thick, making it the more accessible silver option for collectors seeking a precious metal example of Bolen's Jefferson portrait. Both versions showcase Bolen's careful rendering of Jefferson's likeness on the small medallic format.
Rarity Notes
