Description

This circa 1867 brass medal, cataloged as JAB-26, features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States and principal author of the Declaration of Independence. Bolen's portrait series of American presidents and statesmen demonstrates his range as a die engraver and his appreciation for the founding generation. Jefferson's image on a Bolen medalet is particularly fitting, as Jefferson himself was deeply interested in coinage and medals, having played a key role in establishing the U.S. Mint and the decimal monetary system. The brass composition gives this piece a warm golden tone. JAB-26 exists in multiple metal versions including silver and white metal, with the brass version offering a middle ground in terms of both appearance and collector affordability between the base metal and precious metal strikings.

Rarity Notes
