(c.1867) Medal JAB-25 Copper J.A. Bolen
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This circa 1867 copper medal, cataloged as JAB-25, is another of Bolen's self-referential or personally themed pieces bearing his name. JAB-25 follows sequentially from JAB-24, continuing Bolen's practice of producing numbered medalets on various themes. The relationship between JAB-24 and JAB-25 involves either different die designs or different subjects while maintaining the personal identification with the maker. Bolen's numbered series represents a methodical catalog of his output, allowing collectors to systematically assemble a complete collection of his work. The copper composition was Bolen's workhorse metal, used for the majority of pieces in each design. JAB-25 in copper represents the most readily obtainable version of this design, though "readily obtainable" for any Bolen piece still implies considerable scarcity by broader numismatic standards.
Rarity Notes
JAB-25, copper. Bolen personal series medal. Standard small Bolen production quantities.
