(c.1865) Medalet JAB-20 Copper Kline-Abraham Lincoln
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
This circa 1865 copper medalet, cataloged as JAB-20, is the Kline striking of Bolen's Abraham Lincoln design. After J.A. Bolen's death in 1907, many of his dies passed through the hands of later owners who produced additional strikings, known to collectors as "restrikes" or attributed to the specific later owner. The Kline designation identifies this as a striking produced by a subsequent possessor of Bolen's dies, distinguishing it from pieces struck by Bolen himself. While Kline strikings are considered less desirable than original Bolen productions, they are nonetheless collected as legitimate examples of Bolen's die work and provide opportunities for collectors who cannot obtain the scarcer original strikings. The Lincoln subject matter ensures this medalet has cross-market appeal among Lincoln memorabilia enthusiasts.
Rarity Notes
JAB-20, copper, Kline striking. Later production from Bolen dies. Less scarce and lower premium than original Bolen strikings.
