ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-93; Stages “B” & “C” While the clash events on this 1960D(SD) Lincoln cent seem to be the same as ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-92, the position of the clash marks identify it as being different. 2 3 5 / 1 3 4 5 The first clash event is located in the area around the mintmark. We can see the line through the mintmark which has been generated by the bottom of the letters AME of AMERICA. The outline of the mintmark can be seen in the M of AMERICA on the reverse. The overlay shows the approximate location of the dies when they did meet. The next clash event show the familiar top of the letters from the word STATES clashed into the area below Lincoln’s bust. Again, we see the line through the top of the word STATES, the small cleft shaped clash mark below the top right bar of the second T in STATES and the clash mark generated by Lincoln’s back through the D of UNITED. The overlay shows the approximate location of the dies when they did meet. The last clash event that occurred on this coin shows the clash mark generated by the top of Lincoln’s head as a line through the E of ONE and the C of CENT. The overlay provided shows an approximation of when the dies did meet. Stage “B” can be identified by the two die chips seen in the letter R of LIBERTY.Notice that there is no connecting die crack between the CE of CENT Stage “C” had a new obverse die put in place. The identifiers for this die can be seen below. While the die chip in stage “C” seems less advanced than in Stage “B”, the reverse shows a die crack between the CE of CENT. Although the clash marks on the obverse appear similar in both stage “B” and “C”, the answer is in the position of the mintmark in relation to the date. Stage “B” Stage “C”
