About This Coin
The 2016 Centennial Gold Mercury Dime is a United States cent from the Centennial Series 2016 series — the only year of issue. In 2016, coins were struck at the West Point Mint with a combined mintage of 124,885. This represents the highest annual mintage in the entire series, above the series median of 91,752. The obverse features young Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom of thought — often called the "Mercury" dime despite not depicting the Roman god and the reverse displays a Roman fasces — a bundle of rods with an axe — entwined with an olive branch, symbolizing strength through unity tempered by peace. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 99.99% gold, weighing 3.11 grams, 16.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. A notable auction result reached $2.0K in NGC Genuine grade at eBay. Designed by Adolph Alexander Weinman.
