The 2012 (W) Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a commemorative five-dollar gold coin struck at the West Point Mint. The West Point Mint struck 7,006 uncirculated Star-Spangled Banner five-dollar gold coins dated 2012. The gold coin in the Star-Spangled Banner program, this $5 piece depicts a War of 1812 sea battle. The obverse features a naval battle scene from the War of 1812, with an American ship in the foreground and a damaged British ship in the background, while the reverse displays the first words of the Star-Spangled Banner anthem in Francis Scott Key's handwriting against 15 stars and 15 stripes. Designed by Donna Weaver/Richard Masters. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #511547.
