Description
The 2010 (P) Burnished Grand Canyon National Park 5 oz Silver Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the 5 oz. America the Beautiful Silver Quarters 2010 to Date series. With a mintage of 26,019, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 7 mint variants, representing only 12% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs featuring national parks and sites — struck in 5 ounces of .999 fine silver at a massive 76.2mm diameter. The reverse depicts a view of the ancient granaries built by the Ancestral Puebloans above the Nankoweap Delta near the Colorado River. The Grand Canyon exposes nearly two billion years of geological history in its layered rock walls. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Auction record: $1,250 SP70 05-05-2021 eBay. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 155.5 grams, 76.2 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #504973.
