Description

A strongly doubled 1st lock of hair on the horse’s mane can be found below the saddle horn. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: A short, diagonal die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the P mint mark. A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the right of the center of the A in DOLLAR. A short, vertical die gouge can be found in the upper left inside of the O in DOLLAR. A die crack extends into the field from the bottom right side of the ribbon. A die crack runs across the base of the bust through the upper designer’s initials and west into the field. A die chip can be found inside the top left W of WC. Obverse Stage B: New obverse die. None noted. Reverse Stage A: A die gouge can be found SSW of the 9 in 1890. A pre-die chip depression can be found above the left side of the cowboy’s hat. Reverse Stage B: The pre-die chip depression above the left side of the cowboy’s hat has been replaced by a large die chip.
