Description
The 2006 (D) Satin Finish Sacagawea Dollar is a special strike dollar struck at the Denver Mint, part of the Sacagawea & Native American Dollars 2000 to Date series. The U.S. Mint produced 847,361 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 5 mint variants, representing only 7% of total production. The obverse features Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapeau on her back and the reverse displays rotating designs honoring Native American contributions to the United States. The reverse depicts a soaring bald eagle encircled by 17 stars. This original Sacagawea dollar design was used from 2000 through 2008. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Auction record: $138 SP69 06-24-2008 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #915023.
