Description

Letter distortion, typical with trail dies, is seen on EPU, TED of UNITED and TES of STATES. Short, thick line extensions from the top of the columns can be seen with an offset direction of 330º. The left Urn also shows the affects of some extension as do the steps, with their mushy appearance. The statue of Lincoln also suffers from this distortion as he appears to be looking down and to the left.

Die Markers

• Stage “B”, obverse is EMDS – die crack from just above Lincoln’s ear up into the W of WE. Long die scratch through the L of LIBERTY. Long die scratch from the bottom of the S in TRUST into the field.
• Reverse is EMDS – none observed.
