Description

This gold medal dated 1999 features John Elway, the legendary quarterback of the Denver Broncos who retired in 1999 as one of the greatest players in National Football League history. Elway led the Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances, winning back-to-back championships in Super Bowl XXXII (January 1998) and Super Bowl XXXIII (January 1999), earning Super Bowl MVP honors in his final game. Over his 16-season career (1983-1998), Elway compiled a record that included 51,475 passing yards, 300 touchdown passes, and 47 career game-winning or game-tying fourth-quarter drives. His retirement after the 1998 season prompted numerous commemorative items, including this gold medal. Gold sports commemorative medals are rare by nature, as the precious metal limits production to small quantities for serious collectors or presentation purposes. Elway was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and later served as general manager and president of football operations for the Broncos.

Rarity Notes

Very rare. Gold sports commemorative medals are produced in extremely limited quantities and command strong premiums from both numismatic and sports memorabilia collectors.
