The 1996 (W) Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Commemorative Five Dollar Gold - Flag Bearer is a commemorative dollar struck at the West Point Mint. With a mintage of just 9,174, this is a scarce issue sought by specialists. Part of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games program, this $5 gold coin captures the inspiring moment of the Opening Ceremony when athletes parade behind their national flag. The obverse features American athletes entering a stadium led by a flag bearer carrying the U.S. flag in a procession, while the reverse displays the mark of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games surrounded by laurel leaves. Designed by Patricia L. Verani/William Krawczewics. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9736.
