Description
The 1995 (W) Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Commemorative Five Dollar Gold - Torch Runner was struck at the West Point Mint as a five-dollar gold coin in the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. The West Point Mint struck 14,817 uncirculated Atlanta Olympic Torch Runner five-dollar gold coins dated 1995. The obverse features a runner carrying the Olympic torch past the Atlanta skyline, and the reverse displays an eagle in profile with a 1896-1996 banner in its beak, the reverse shared by both 1995 Atlanta $5 coins. The West Point Mint, once a bullion depository, became a full production facility specializing in commemorative and bullion coinage. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9732.
