Description
The 1995 (W) Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Commemorative Five Dollar Gold - Torch Runner was struck at the West Point Mint as a cent in the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. With a mintage of 14,675, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. The West Point Mint, once a bullion depository, became a full production facility specializing in commemorative and bullion coinage. Auction record: $7,475 NG 06-02-2010 Heritage Auctions.
