Description
The 1990 (P) Proof Eisenhower Dollar is a proof dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) series. Total mintage reached 1.1 million. The obverse features Dwight D. Eisenhower facing left, while the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch in its talons, commemorating the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Designed by John M. Mercanti/Marcel Jovini. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9639. The Eisenhower Dollar honored both President Eisenhower and the Apollo 11 moon landing, combining the two themes on a single coin. The 40% silver blue-pack and brown-pack variants are collected avidly. The 1972 Type 2 (high-relief moon) and various die varieties add interest to this short series.
