Description
The 1987 (W) United States Constitution Bicentennial Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a commemorative five-dollar gold coin struck at the West Point Mint. The West Point Mint struck 214,225 uncirculated Constitution five-dollar gold coins dated 1987. The gold coin companion to the 1987 Constitution silver dollar, this $5 piece was authorized for the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution. The obverse features a stylized flying eagle holding a quill pen in its talons, while the reverse displays a large vertical quill pen behind the calligraphic words 'We the People,' with nine stars on the left and four on the right. Designed by Marcel Jovine. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9626.
