Description
The 1983 (D) Jefferson Nickel, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 536.7 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. Low mintages continued from the recession, with 1983-P and 1983-D among the scarcer modern dates. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $5 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4111.
