(1969)-FM Silver Medal Colorado States of the Union
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
This 1969 sterling silver medal depicting Colorado is part of the Franklin Mint's States of the Union series. Colorado, known as the Centennial State for its admission to the Union in 1876 during the nation's centennial year, is represented with imagery reflecting its mountainous terrain and mining heritage. The Franklin Mint produced these medals in sterling silver (.925 fine) using high-relief striking techniques that showcased the detailed state-specific designs. The States of the Union program was typical of Franklin Mint subscription series from the late 1960s and 1970s, a period when private mint medal collecting experienced enormous popularity in the United States. Each medal was individually numbered and accompanied by documentation of its limited mintage, creating a sense of exclusivity that drove collector demand during the private mint boom era.
