1964 Quarter Pattern - RB-1150, INCO
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The RB-1150 experimental quarter belongs to INCO's 1100-series alloy testing program, part of the landmark 1964 evaluation that transformed American coinage. This piece was struck at Medallic Art Company using Washington quarter dies, combining the familiar design of the circulating quarter with an experimental planchet composition. The International Nickel Company's role in developing the copper-nickel clad composition that replaced silver gave these experimental pieces particular historical significance — they represent the prototype stage of a coinage composition that has been used continuously for over sixty years and shows no signs of being replaced.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare. The RB-1150 alloy composition is known from only a small number of surviving examples.
