Description

This sterling silver medal from the Franklin Mint's Signs of the Zodiac series depicts Capricorn, the Sea-Goat. Capricorn governs those born between December 22 and January 19 and is associated with ambition, discipline, and practical wisdom. The mythological sea-goat — part goat, part fish — derives from the Sumerian god Enki and was later identified with the Greek god Pan, who transformed his lower half into a fish tail to escape the monster Typhon. The Franklin Mint's medallic rendering of Capricorn captures this hybrid creature in high-relief silver, combining terrestrial and aquatic elements in a design that reflects the sign's association with the boundary between earth and water. As with all medals in the Zodiac series, this piece was struck in sterling silver with a proof-like finish and marketed through subscription sales.
